Vito's All Black selection in 2010 followed a breakthrough Super14 campaign with the Hurricanes and announced the pacy back-rower as a prospect on the international stage. Quick and precise rather than brutish, Vito offered a different outlook at blindside to the defensively solid Jerome Kaino in Tests against Ireland and Wales. A former star at Sevens and Under-19 level, the Wellington flanker made the All Blacks' Tri-Nations squad following injury but was behind the experienced Kaino in the pecking order.
Vito found himself on the outskirts of the All Blacks side during the 2011 season and after impressing throughout the Super Rugby - despite his side the Hurricanes underperforming - Vito earned a late call-up to the All Blacks side for their Tri-Nations match in Port Elizabeth against South Africa. VIto clearly did enough to impress coach Graham Henry and he was handed a call-up to the 30-man squad for the 2011 World Cup.
During the tournament Vito started three games and came on as a replacement twice, scoring two tries, as the All Blacks were crowned World Champions for a second time.
