The Ospreys are optimistic that star wing Shane Williams will be fit and ready to face Perpignan in their crucial Heineken Cup tie on January 17.
IRB World Player of the Year Williams has been out of action since sustaining an injury to his rotator cuff tendons in the away game against Treviso in the Heineken Cup on December 13. His bosses at the Ospreys are hopeful that he may even play some part in this weekend's Magners League meeting with Munster, who are currently battling with the Welsh region for top spot.
"We are fairly confident (that he'll be available for Munster)," Ospreys coach Sean Holley told BBC Sport Wales. "Shane's had a fortnight off and a slight injection in a shoulder issue that seems to be resolving.
"He's back in full training as of (Sunday), we'll see how he goes to see whether he's available for Munster, but certainly the future looks good."
The news will be a boost not only to the Ospresy but also Wales coach Warren Gatland, who will soon begin his preparations for Wales' Six Nations title defence, beginning with a trip to face Scotland at Murrayfield on February 8.
The news may not be so good for Gatland on the other wing, with Scarlets flyer Mark Jones looking a doubt for the start of the Six Nations after undergoing surgery to remove his appendix. Jones looks likely to be sidelined for a couple of weeks, potentially opening the door to Blues wing Leigh Halfpenny.
