Tries from Cory Jane and Israel Dagg, along with the boot of Dan Carter, proved to be enough for the All Blacks to begin the competition with an impressive win in Sydney. Deans was a man under pressure going into the Championship and he will be hoping that his side bounce back next week in Eden Park.
One big decision that Deans had to make before kick-off was who to start at No.10, the former All Black eventually opting to give Berrick Barnes the nod ahead of Quade Cooper. Deans was pleased with Barnes' contribution but claims that the whole side has to play better next week.
"To their credit they put us under pressure but it was really the unforced errors that put us in a difficult position," Deans said. The set piece was pretty good tonight, there was a moment where we lost concentration but overall it was pretty good.
"We have to be better, that wouldn't be too hard I don't think. We'll definitely be better next week. Obviously we're not where we'd like to be, but now we've got prepare again for the All Blacks who are a tough side to crack.
"Berrick did pretty well tonight, he kicked well, but you've got to look at how the group came together and performed on the night. Some of the errors out there just aren't acceptable in any level of the game, now people will put that down to any number of things."
The Wallabies were skippered by David Pocock and he described the match as "very disappointing" and claimed that they "didn't adapt quick enough" to the pace of the game.
