The Welsh Rugby Union has announced that they will showcase their own version of the double header with the four regions meeting at the Millennium Stadium.
The fixtures will be on March 30 with the Dragons and the Cardiff Blues forgoing their home advantage for a slice of the gate receipts. The Dragons will play the Scarlets with the Blues facing the Ospreys.
The weekend is positioned just after the end of the Six Nations and just before the Heineken Cup quarter-finals so all four regions will hope to call on their premier Welsh internationals. The double header will now be a feature for the next four years and WRU CEO Roger Lewis is optimistic that it will be well received by the four regions.
"This unique double-header will be a historic moment for Welsh rugby," WRU Group Chief Executive Roger Lewis told wru.co.uk. "It has taken us five years to put this fixture together, but I am confident it will have been worth the wait.
"The WRU will promote and underwrite this fixture for the next four years, that's how much we believe in it. Fans will see the stars of Welsh rugby and get two derby matches for the price of one very reasonably priced ticket.
"I predict this double-header will become a highlight in the Welsh rugby calendar for a long, long time to come."
