The Brumbies have appointed former rugby league coach Brian Smith as defence coach. Smith will take over the defensive coaching duties at the Brumbies following his dismissal from the Sydney Roosters. He has previously spent his entire coaching career in rugby league, including stints with Hull FC and Bradford Bulls. "It is great to have someone of Brian's experience and skillset join the Brumbies coaching staff," said Brumbies head coach Jake White. "Brian will consult to the Brumbies and provide structured support around our defensive line and tackling." Smith added: "The opportunity to work with a talented young squad was very appealing. The Brumbies have put in place a first class programme, and I hope that I will be able to contribute to success in 2013." © ESPN EMEA Ltd
