1989
David Campese fumbled the ball in what became known as 'Campo's Corner' at the Sydney Football Stadium to hand the Lions victory in their decisive third Test clash.

The Australian's error let Lions legend Ieuan Evans in for a try that set up a famous 19-18 win that also saw the tourists clinch the series glory. Finlay Calder's men were level at 9-9 at half-time thanks largely to the boot of fullback Gavin Hastings who kept his side in the match before Campese's high-profile blunder.

2000
A world record crowd of 109,874 attended Stadium Australia in Sydney where the All Blacks beat the Wallabies 39-35 in the season's opening Tri-Nations Test. Jonah Lomu scored one of his side's five tries.

Future Rugby World Cup-winning hooker Steve Thompson was born in Hemel Hempstead, England. He played for Northampton and made his Test debut just a year before England's triumph at the sport's showpiece event in 2003.

He went on to play for the British & Irish Lions in 2005 but was forced to retire a year later with a neck injury for which he received £500,000 compensation. Thompson made a sensational return to action in 2007 with Top 14 side Brive and earned an international recall against Argentina in 2009. However, with the resumption of his playing career he had to repay all of his compensation pay-out.

1933
The Wallabies in South Africa were finding their form ahead of the second Test, despite the prolonged absence through injury of their captain Alec Ross. The side, led in his absence by Dave Cowper, defeated Orange Free State 9-8 in Bloemfontein with Cowper scoring two tries.

1950
