Gloucester hooker Oliver Azam has been cited for an alleged act of foul play in Tuesday night's Aviva Premiership clash with Northampton Saints.
The former France international appeared to drive his head into Saints lock Adam Eustace's head during the first half of the game at Kingsholm, which the home side won 27-15 thanks in no small part to a second-half score from Azam.
The incident went unnoticed by referee Wayne Barnes but it did not escape the attention of citing officer Wade Dooley and Azam has been summoned to appear before a Rugby Football Union disciplinary panel on Wednesday.
Any potential ban would severely jeopardise the player's hopes of featuring in Gloucester's bid for Premiership glory, with the Cherry and Whites having all but sealed their place in the play-offs with their win over the Saints. Azam will be available for Sunday's clash with Saracens but he could yet miss next the final-day clash with Sale, on May 7, and the play-off semi-finals, which are scheduled to take place the following weekend.
Meanwhile, Mark Sorenson has also been summoned to appear at the same hearing as Azam after the Northampton lock was cited for a dangerous tackle on Newcastle's Tim Swinson during their side's meeting at Kingston Park last Friday.
The panel will be chaired by RFU disciplinary officer Judge Jeff Blackett, assisted by Robert Horner and Jeremy Summers.
