1952
On their first tour of Argentina, Ireland were held to a 3-3 draw by the Pumas in the first unofficial Test of a two-match series. The tour coincided with the death of Eva Peron, the wife of Argentina's President, Juan Peron, just six days after they left Dublin and as a result it was almost cancelled. Argentina went on to win the second game between the two countries - beating the tourists 6-0 a week later also in Buenos Aires.

2009
South African rugby chiefs and several Springbok players were punished following a controversial protest during the British and Irish Lions tour. Players and management wore armbands that featured the word "Justice" before and during the third Test defeat against the Lions in Johannesburg. Their stance opposed a suspension handed out to lock Bakkies Botha for a dangerous charge on Lions prop Adam Jones during the second Test at Loftus Versfeld, Pretoria, seven days earlier. The Wales forward was left nursing a dislocated shoulder that ended his tour. SARU received a £10,000 fine and each Springbok player who wore an armband landed a £200 fine, expect for skipper John Smit, who was fined £1,000.

1955
Two tries by the Scottish wing Arthur Smith help the Lions in a hard match against Eastern Transvaal in Springs. The home province, facing a Lions team for the first time, drew level with a last-minute dropped goal by Clive Forman, their outside-half.

1938
Despite being stretched by injuries, Sammy Walker's Lions ran up the biggest winning margin of their South African tour. In the 19th game of their visit, the tourists beat North Eastern Districts 42-3 at Burgersdorp.

1949
Fred Allen's All Blacks ran up the highest score and biggest winning margin of their South African tour, beating the North Eastern Districts 28-3 in Aliwal North.

1963
Australia beat South Africa 11-9 in Johannesburg in front of 65,000 spectators to go one up with one to play in a four-match series.

1976
Andy Leslie's All Blacks recorded the highest score of their tour of South Africa defeating the Transvaal Country Invitation XV 48-13 at Witbank.
