Tapuai made his Test bow for Australia against Wales in December 2011, at the end of a breakthrough year. Having been a bit-part player in 2009 and 2010, he formed a centre pairing with Anthony Fainga'a that underpinned the Reds' march to the Super Rugby title. Born in Brisbane and raised in Melbourne, Tapuai won honours with Australia Schoolboys and Under-20s before emerging with Queensland.
