Profile

Fenwick Allison played seven times for England as a full-back between 1956 and 1958. He held his place for all four games in 1956 after an inauspicious start when he was one of ten new caps in a side which lost to Wales. He was retained for the first match in 1957, kicking the penalty which beat Wales in Cardiff and set England on course for the Grand Slam, but a knee injury forced him to withdraw for the second game and he was unable to displace Bob Challis when he recovered. Allison returned in 1958 to play the first and last internationals (both ended 3-3) and that season he captained Warwickshire to the county championship. His club rugby was mainly with Coventry where he was noted because he wore woollen gloves, arguing it helped him grip the heavy leather balls in use at the time. After retiring he coached at Roundhay in Leeds and played a lot of golf.
