Educated at Glasgow Academy and a surveyor by profession, Charles Russell Bruce played his club rugby for Glasgow Academicals and also represented the Barbarians.
A centre/stand-off, he won eight caps for Scotland between 1947 and 1949 and also played in six "Victory Internationals" in 1946 to mark the end of the Second World War.
He scored four tries in these Victory Internationals, five of which Scotland won.
His first cap was won against France at Stade Colombes in 1947 and in the final game of that season's championship he captained Scotland from stand-off in their match against England at Twickenham.
He missed out on the 1948 season but returned to play all four games in the 1949 championship, all at stand-off.
He died in a Glasgow hospital after a short illness. He was 90.
