A strong runner and determined defender, Harold Locke played 12 times for England as a centre between 1923 and 1927. His debut was hardly enthusiastically received, The Times describing him as a "halting compromise" but he retained his place for the Championship-winning victory in Paris and for three of the following season's four Grand Slam-securing games. He lost form and was sidelined throughout 1926 but returned for three matches in 1927, losing his place after an erratic performance in a defeat against Wales.
