Profile

Biarritz prop Marconnet made his debut for Top 14 rivals Stade Francais during the 1997-98 season - the year the Parisian giants were crowned champions of France. Having shone for Stade, Marconnet was rewarded with his first cap for France in 1998 against Argentina in November.

Marconnet then went on to play all of France's games in the 1999 Five Nations and was a prominent figure in Stade's journey to their 1999 French league triumph. Now a regular fixture in the French team, Marconnet was part of the Stade side which lost in the final of the 2001 Heineken Cup - but they eventually lost to the Leicester Tigers.

Having started all five of France's games in the 2003 Six Nations, Marconnet went to the World Cup as a key player in the French side. He appeared for the side throughout the pool stages and also against Ireland and England in the knockout stages. His final match of the 2003 tournament came in the third/fourth play-off against the All Blacks.

In 2004 - Stade successfully defended their title as champions of France defeating Perpignan in the final and Marconnet ended up playing in all of France's games in the 2004 Six Nations.

Marconnet faced further heartbreak in the 2005 Heineken Cup as he was once again a runner-up as Stade loss to Biarritz. Having been a regular fixture in the French side over the next few seasons, Marconnet looked set to go to the 2007 World Cup, but Marconnet was ruled out following a skiing injury.

Following the emergence of Servat and Mas, Marconnet found himself more of a periphery figure in the French side but was re-called to the set-up, following a year's absence, for the 2011 Six Nations by coach Marc Lievremont. Unfortunately for Marconnet, his only start of the tournament came in their historic loss against Italy.
