Michael Bent joined European champions Leinster following the conclusion of the 2012 ITM Cup competiton during which he had played for Taranaki and immediately earned himself a place in the Ireland squad for the autumn internationals thanks to an Irish grandmother.

Bent made his name as a powerful scrummager over two seasons with Super Rugby franchise the Hurricanes. Previously he had played for Taranaki's age grade and development sides before graduating to the 1st XV, with whom he won the Ranfurly Shield in 2011.
