Profile

The powerful No.8 made a big impact in his opening Super Rugby season with the Western Force.

He broke into the Wallabies side during the 2010 Tri-Nations, playing all three games against South Africa and once against New Zealand. He retained the No.8 shirt for the one-off match against New Zealand in Hong Kong and then for Australia's tour of the northern hemisphere, which included wins over Wales, France and Italy.

A few months into the 2011 Super Rugby season, McCalman re-signed with Western Force and Australian Rugby Union until 2013.

Following an impressive tour to the northern hemisphere in 2010, McCalman remained in the Wallabies reckoning and coach Robbie Deans opted to start him at No.8 in their famous defeat to Samoa. Despite the high profile dropping of Matt Giteau in the aftermath, McCalman was one of the few Wallabies who impressed. McCalman started a further two games for the national side during their Tri-Nations and was subsequently named in their 30-man squad for the World Cup.
