Profile

Described by coach Bernard Laporte as the best scrum-half in French history, Galthie led his side with distinction as he neared the end of a Test career that began in 1991. He played at four World Cups, including in France's legendary 43-31 victory over the All Blacks in the 1999 semi-final. In 2002 he won the prestigious IRB World Player of the Year award, succeeding Keith Wood, after his side had swept to a Six Nations Grand Slam. Galthie also captained his team at the 2003 World Cup, calling time on his Test career following their semi-final exit. At club level he represented Colomiers and Stade Francais, whom he would later coach.
