Profile

Argentina prop Federico Mendez began his rugby career with his local club, Mendoza, and made his debut for the Pumas while still a teenager. He was notoriously sent-off for a punch on England lock Paul Ackford at Twickenham in 1990.

He won 75 caps for Argentina and represented them at the 1995 World Cup in South Africa before strengthening his link with the country by playing for Natal Sharks. Mendez then had a spell with Bath and Northampton in England, becoming the first player to win two Heineken Cups by lifting the trophy with Bath in 1998 and Northampton in 2000
