Despite weighting in at little over 12 stone, Simon Hodgkinson won 14 caps for England at fullback between 1989 and 1991, scoring a record 60 points in four matches during the 1991 Grand Slam campaign. Against Wales he slotted a record seven penalties in a 25-6 win. He was unfortunate to lose his place to Jonathan Webb later in the year, and his claims were then further dented by a succession of injuries. Less than two years later he quit top-flight rugby but after less than a month was lured back to Moseley, captaining them for a year before returning to Nottingham
