Profile

Waldron was appointed as the chief executive of the Melbourne Rebels Super Rugby franchise in January 2010 ahead of their entry in the Super 15 competition in 2011 and spearheaded a talent recruitment drive both on and off the pitch.

The then 45-year-old joined the expansion side in a shock move from rugby league side the Melbourne Storm where he had held a similar position since 2004. Under Waldron's off-field leadership, the Storm contested four NRL grand finals, winning two of them but in April 2010 they were stripped of their titles after being found guilty of breaching the salary cap severely and systematically during Waldron's tenure with the team's former chief executive singled out as the main architect of the deception.

In 1991 he commenced a sports administration career when he was appointed Development Manager with the Richmond Football Club. Over the ensuing years he held the positions of National Recruiting Manager and General Manger, Football Operations with the Richmond Football Club finishing his time there in late 1997. He later joined Elite Sports Properties, one of Australia's leading sports management groups, and also worked as a sport journalist.

In October 1999 he joined the St.Kilda Football Club as General Manger, Football Operations and was promoted to CEO in late 2001 before switching to the Storm in late 2004. Under Waldron's leadership the Storm became an iconic brand in the Melbourne and Australian sporting landscape. In December 2006, Brian was nominated for the 2006 Australian Sport Awards Sport Executive of the Year in recognition for his outstanding achievements throughout the year.
