Ryan Jones looks set to miss his Wales' summer tour of South Africa because of an ankle injury picked up during Bristol's defeat at London Welsh on Wednesday.
Jones was stretchered off near the end of the first half with suspected ligament damage to his left ankle. He was due to undergo further assessment today but Bristol officials said they expected him to need an operation.
The news is a blow to Bristol, who have to overcome a 19-point deficit in the second leg of the play-off, and also to Warren Gatland who is already without key players such as Sam Warburton, Leigh Halfpenny and Richard Hibbard.
The Wales squad will be announced on Friday night after a trial match at Swansea's Liberty Stadium.
