Bristol head coach Richard Hill has confirmed that the club have imposed a two week club ban on Samoan international David Lemi.

Lemi was cited on Thursday for an alleged dangerous tackle on Northampton winger Paul Diggin during the Saints' 30-8 Guinness Premiership victory last weekend and faces an RFU Disciplinary Panel next week.

However, Bristol have reviewed the match DVD and taken their own action in advance of the hearing. "We have looked closely at the match footage with David and, although there was no malicious intent in the challenge, we feel that the correct thing to do is to stand David down for the next two matches," said Hill in a statement released by the club

"This was not an easy decision as we obviously badly need a player of David's talents against Saracens on Sunday and also in France next weekend against Toulon."

Lemi has been summoned before an RFU disciplinary panel on January 13 to answer the charge. The panel will be chaired by RFU Disciplinary Officer His Honour Judge Jeff Blackett.
