Loubscher starts for Elephants
August 29, 2001
Sharks Super 12 fullback Ricardo Loubscher is back in the starting line-up of the embattled Mighty Elephants for Sunday's Bankfin Currie Cup match against the Natal Sharks at Telkom Park in Port Elizabeth.
Injury ruled Loubscher (pictured) out for a couple of weeks and he returned to the squad for Eastern Province's last game, against the Cheetahs, but he was only on the substitutes' bench. Now the Springbok is back in place of Justin Peach, who moves to the wing in place of SA Sevens player Andries Fourie.
Coach Allister Coetzee also brought in Vorster Venter at hooker, promising Wayne van Heerden at flank, Rory Duncan at lock and exciting Wonga Joka at wing in a bid to strengthen his side ahead of a tough fixture against the high-riding Sharks.
Former SA Schools captain Sean Plaatjies (flank), Nicky Smit (lock) and Wayne Bennett (hooker) have been dropped, while Fabian Juries (wing) gets a bit of a breather after having just returned from national Sevens duties in Japan.
Mighty Elephants: Ricardo Loubscher, Justin Peach, Sam Gerber, Ronnie Fourie, Wonga Joka, Monwabisi Mdyesha, Chad Alcock (capt), Barry Pinnock, Wayne van Heerden, Heinrich Stride, Wayne Boardman, Rory Duncan, Pierre Durant, Vorster Venter, Dekado Jantjies. Substitutes: Chris Jonck, Rhys Botha, Andries Fourie, Wayne Bennett, Gert Schoonbee, Nicky Smit, Jonathan Staples.
