Raiwalui to captain Fiji in Epson Cup opener
May 11, 2000
New Coach Greg Smith names his first squad after trial games in Suva.
Lock forward Simon Raiwalui will skipper Fiji when they begin their Epson Cup campaign against Japan next week. Coach Greg Smith has picked a squad with a blend of experience and youth, although notable absentees from his trials probably forced his hand. Neither Waisale Serevi nor Vili Satala , both based in France, turned up for the trials , but are expected to play in the Paris Sevens at the end of the month. World Cup skipper Greg Smith, who plays for the Chiefs in Super 12, and Jacob Rauluni, who plays for the Reds, will be available after this weekend. However, Crusaders' winger Marika Vunibaka will remain with the Canterbury side until the end of their campaign. They have reached the semi final stages.
The full Fijian squad is :
Backs : Mosese Rauluni, Nicky Little(c), Seremaia Bai, Sirilo Lala, Kameli Tilalati, Seru Rabeni, Imanueli Tiko, Alipate Naqaya, Saimoni Rokini, Jonetani Waqa, Norman Ligairi.
