Charge against Kempson dropped
May 5, 2000
A charge of attempted rape against Springbok and Western Stormers prop Robbie Kempson has been dropped, SABC public radio reported Thursday.
It said the director of public prosecutions in the Western Cape province, Frank Kahn, had declined to prosecute the 26-year-old player because he was satisfied there was no reasonable prospect of a successful prosecution.
Kempson was arrested at the weekend after a 17-year-old schoolgirl accused him of attempting to rape her at his Cape Town home.
The girl and her brother spent Saturday night at Kempson's house to celebrate the Stormers Super 12 win over the Otago Highlanders.
He was arrested after she laid a charge on Sunday morning but was freed on 2,000 rand (US$300) bail after appearing in court the same day.
