Maka's missing minutes
March 18, 2000
The Chiefs' management made a serious blunder this afternoon which cost Isitolo Maka 60 minutes against the Hurricanes.
The big no 8 could have made a difference to the outcome of the Chiefs' eventual five point defeat to the Hurricanes, but was mistakenly subbed after scrum half Rhys Duggan was sin-binned in the 20th minute.
Instead of converting one of the onfield players into a half back for ten minutes , the Chiefs decided to bring replacement scrum half Danny Lee on, at Maka's expense.
Once Maka had left the field , he could not return, but the Chiefs only realised this after the switch had been made.As soon as they were allowed 15 players again , Hare Makiri was sent on to the field, not Maka.
