Otago announce new signings for coming season
November 27, 1999
The Otago Rugby Union today announced 2 interesting and potentially significant signings.
Twenty-two year old Southland no 8 Paul Miller will play for Otago in the NPC and is expected to be in the Otago Highlanders Super 12 squad , due to be announced next Friday.
Miller is an exciting prospect who enjoyed an outstanding NPC season in a Southland side which went win-less in finishing bottom of the first division. He is a big, athletic player, one of a crop of young loose forwards who will be vying for Taine Randell's All Black jersey.
Miller was part of the Highlanders' 1999 Super 12 squad without ever playing. His fate in 2000 is likely to be very different.
Auckland winger Dan Parkinson is also moving south to Carisbrook. He is a very quick player who has represented New Zealand at sevens. In the 1999 NPC season he was loaned by Auckland to the Northland union, where he made quite an impact. When Northland caused a huge upset by defeating Canterbury in Whangarei , Parkinson scored a first half try by displaying all his scorching pace. The Northlanders will be sorry to lose him.
