Jones-Hughes unlikely to make European deadline
Cardiff
November 12, 1999

Unless Jason Jones-Hughes can sign for a club, probably Cardiff, today he will be ineligible to play in the European Cup this season.
Although the player is keen to play in the competition he has yet to receive confirmation that the Australian Rugby Union will release him from his contract with New South Wales.
The Australian's lost out earlier in the year when they contested Jones-Hughes' right to join Graham Henry's squad ahead of the World Cup, and the centre went on to win two caps in the tournament.
Today is the final day for registration for the European competition and it seems unlikely that the necessary clearances will be given in time to let him play.
A further complication is the late arrival of Bristol in the bid to claim his signature. After their disappointment at failing to lure Jonah Lomu to the west of England the ambitious Allied Dunbar Premiership side have now made a tentative approach to Jones-Hughes. Bristol will play in the European Conference this season, and today is also the cut-off point for registration in that competition.
