Italy
November 9, 1999

On Sunday Viadana and Mirano produced the first upsets of season beating Calvisano and Petraca Padova in the Italian club championship.
In pool A newly promoted Viadana, fielding no less than nine foreign players, including those of Italian extraction, beat New Zealand coach Craig Green's Calvisano 16-6. Wellington centre Ali Koko scored a try for the winners before being sent off for stamping.

Benetton Treviso gained their first away victory of the season against San Donà, 36-7, with international winger Nicola Mazzuccato scoring a hat trick.

L'Aquila coach Mike Brewer got his first win under his belt, 31-18, over Rovigo. On the day prop Marco D'Onofrio celebrated his 400th game in the first division. Samoa fly half, former Richmond, Earl Va'a scored 21 points for the winners.

In pool B, Mirano got the better of last year's runner up Petraca Padova coming back from being 6-10 down at half time. Australian wing Brendan Williams' try and North Otago centre Daniel Soper's conversion and penalty kick put Petrarca in the lead early. Mirano surged back with two penalties to Romanian centre Maftei and a try by lock Diego Sanguin following a pushover by the forwards. Fly half Zanato also kicked a drop goal in injury time to seal a 14-10 victory for the underdogs.

Roma Olimpic unconvincingly clinched victory over Piacenza, 25-15, with South African Kenneth Ford kicking 20 points for his team, and Parma made good against Bologna, 21-9, in a tryless match.
