Taylor and Cribb on the move
New Zealand
November 7, 1999

Two of the recent New Zealand Provincial Championship's best players, Glenn Taylor and Ron Cribb look certain to be on the move before the start of next year's Super 12 series.
Taylor, skipper of Northland and an All Black in 1996, has not been given a contract with the Auckland Blues and is now likely to play for the Waikato Chiefs as he did in 1997 & 1998. Taylor was by common consent the best lock forward in the NPC and must still have a chance of returning to the All Blacks to give it the sort of focused, athletic aggression so lacking in the World Cup performance. It is difficult to see why the powers that be at Auckland have ignored his claims for inclusion in their squad.

Of even greater significance is the likelihood that Cribb, North Harbour's outstanding No 8, is very likely to play for the Canterbury Crusaders in the Super 12 even though he too plays within the catchment of the Blues. Cribb is one of several No 8s in New Zealand who are believed to be able to offer the bulky, aggressive, powerful driving play off the back of the scrum which is so missing with Taine Randell.
