Uruguayans: "Flying the flag for amateur rugby"
Edinburgh
September 28, 1999

Uruguay arrived in their Edinburgh base on Monday evening in upbeat mood, despite the enormity of the task before them.
The South Americans are due to face the Five Nations Champions and then the World Champions within the space of 8 days, but before that have their most realistic chance of a win, against Spain on Saturday.
Coach Daniel Herrera claimed "We will be focusing solely on the Spain match. Thereafter we can think about the other games."
However the 39-year-old coach is realistic about his sides long-term prospects "We are here flying the flag of amateur rugby. It will good for our game to be seen on television playing against South Africa and Scotland. I regard it as a big achievement for us to be here," he said. "When we watched the World Cup on television in 1995 we never dreamed of being in the finals four years later."
The Uruguayans have received much praise for their combative pack, and after beating Spain 20-3 in the L'Aquilla tournament in August should not return home empty handed.
