Lyle realistic about Eagles chances
Dublin
September 28, 1999

USA captain Dan Lyle has admitted that his side are unlikely to beat Ireland in their opener on Saturday, but sees the World Cup campaign as a way of developing the Eagles squad.
Interviewed on Monday, the Bath player said, "We're being realistic about that game and have to be clear-cut about our expectations."
The Eagles, who were swamped by England on their recent visit to Twickenham, will be targeting the game against Romania the following Saturday as their best chance of taking three points. However, the captain feels he has a lot of talented players in his squad and during the competition some may attract the attention of the top European clubs. "Some of them may go on to play in Europe and elsewhere on the back of their performances in this World Cup so it's extremely important that they make the most of it," said Lyle.
