Worcester's new director of rugby Dean Ryan has begun to overhaul the Warriors coaching team by recruiting Shane Howarth and axing Nigel Redman.

Howarth, a former Wales and New Zealand international, makes the switch from Premiership rivals Wasps who announced the appointment of former Bath coach Brad Davis earlier today. Howarth is Ryan's first coaching appointment since he replaced Richard Hill as the Warriors' new chief last month.

Howarth will bring a wealth of experience to the role after previously working for the Auckland Blues, New Zealand Maori and the Pacific Islanders and Ryan is delighted with his new appointment. "Shane coaches players to have a real ambition to play and you only have to look at the back line development he has achieved this season at London Wasps to see his pedigree," Ryan said.

"He also has the ability to develop, support and bring through youngsters and that is crucial to the way I want Warriors to operate. Shane has a strong coaching background around the world, with Super Rugby and international experience, and he will be a big asset to the coaching set-up at Warriors."

Redman served as Hill's assistant this season and will quit Sixways despite having two years left on his contract. Redman told the Worcester News: "Dean has been open and honest with me since his arrival and wants to work with people he knows. I understand that decision and wish the club the very best for the future as I look forward to my next challenge in rugby.

"I've enjoyed my time at Warriors and thank all the players and staff for their hard work. I believe the clubs forwards have developed over the last 12 months and are now playing a more dynamic brand of rugby and scoring more tries."
