Sale Sharks are ready to unveil Bryan Redpath as their new head coach, according to reports.

The current Gloucester boss has been strongly linked with the vacant post at the Sharks following Tony Hanks' departure. While Jim Mallinder and Brian Ashton were also believed to be in the frame, the Scotsman reports that Redpath is Steve Diamond's chosen man despite the Gloucester coach's insistance to the contrary last week.

Redpath ended his playing career at Gloucester after a spell at the Sharks where he made 80 Premiership appearances. He is believed to be close to the Sharks' owner Brian Kennedy and CEO Diamond and with the likes of Scottish international Richie Gray arriving at the Sharks over the summer, a move back north is understood to appeal to Redpath.

When asked about whether he would be interested in taking up the Sharks role, Redpath told reporters on Saturday: "There is speculation all the time about who is going where. I've got a contract here, and I will fight to do everything I can to make sure we win games. There is no distraction around it."

And in response to the rumours surrounding Redpath, Gloucester owner Ryan Walkinshaw Tweeted:
