Samoa recovered from a 10-point deficit to secure a 13-10 victory over Japan in Tokyo on Saturday.

Japan accelerated in front when No.8 Ryukoliniasi Holani touched down for the hosts following fly-half James Arlidge's penalty.

Arlidge added the conversion as Japan took control of the game with a 10-0 advantage midway through the first half.

However, Arlidge missed with a drop-goal attempt and Japan's failure to build on their lead left the door open to Samoa.

Fullback Lolo Lui reduced the deficit with two penalties in the second half before scrum-half Kahn Foitualii scored the crucial try to make it 11-10.

Lui landed the conversion to give them a three-point lead. And with Arlidge missing a penalty, Samoa held on to gain revenge for their defeat by Japan in the Pacific Nations Cup in June.
