Maurice Colclough's try set England on course for a 15-9 Twickenham win against the All Blacks. Dusty Hare kicked three penalties and a conversion, while Murray Davies scored the New Zealand try and future Australia coach Robbie Deans kicked a penalty and a conversion. Colclough's try, a barge over from a lineout in the second-half, capped off a dominant forward display from England, who repaired a small part of the damage inflicted by the British & Irish Lions' 4-0 thumping by the All Blacks earlier in the year. Colclough was dubbed "the Marquis de Colclough" by skipper Peter Wheeler in the aftermath of the game.

He managed Ireland at the 1987 World Cup and later represented them on the IRB Council.
