1981
Naas Botha inspired South Africa to a series-levelling 24-12 win over New Zealand in Wellington.

Botha scored 20 points in the second Test, the fly-half kicking five penalties, a conversion and a drop goal. The All Blacks bounced back to win the deciding test, though, triumphing 25-22 in an epic encounter in Auckland.

There was more disappointment to follow for the Springboks, too, as the anti-apartheid protests littered throughout their controversial tour of New Zealand indirectly led to them being banned from international competition.

1891
The Lions battled their way to 3-0 victory over South Africa at Kimberley.

Fullback Will Mitchell's goal from a mark was the only score of a fiercely-contested encounter.

1896
The Lions went 3-0 up in their four-Test series with South Africa courtesy of a 9-3 victory in Kimberley. Percy Twentyman-Jones touched down for the Lions.

1959
New Zealand routed the Lions 22-8 in Christchurch, clinching the series with one game to spare. Ralph Caulton bagged a brace of tries for the All Blacks, while Don Clarke added ten points with the boot.

1964
Winger Stewart Boyce helped himself to two tries as Australia recorded a sensational 20-5 win over the All Blacks in Wellington. Boyce's twin brother also lined out for the Wallabies on the day.

1979
Hugo Porta kicked 13 points as Argentina posted a 21-10 victory over Manawatu at Palmerston North.
