Having turned out for Hawke's Bay, Tuamalolo soon made the transition to the Chiefs to play Super Rugby. After impressing for the Waikato franchise, Taumalolo made his debut for Tonga in June 2011, eventually playing at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. The following year he enjoyed his finest season, scoring nine tries as the Chiefs wrapped up a maiden Super Rugby title.
