Profile

William Luddington played 13 times for England in the golden period in the 1920s under the captaincy of Wavell Wakefield, playing in all matches during the 1924 Grand Slam. Although he was a forward, he was an excellent goal kicker, and he won the 1923 Calcutta Cup tie with a conversion from the touchline on the stroke of time. He served as a Master-at-arms in the Royal Navy during World War II and was killed during an air attack on HMS Illustrious.
