A talented fullback with an excellent kicking game who can also operate on the wing, Cameron Shepherd, when fully fit, is considered one of the most dangerous attacking players in Australian rugby.
Shepherd was born in England but raised in Sydney and, after representing Australia at U-21 and A level, it was with the Waratahs that he first came to prominence. However, it was with the newly-formed Western Force, whom he joined in 2005, that Shepherd really made his name.
He made his Super Rugby debut for the Force against the Brumbies the following year and, after a hugely impressive season, he was handed his Wallabies debut that summer, coming on as a replacement against England in Sydney. He was sprung from the bench again in the second Test in Melbourne a week later before scoring his first try for the Wallabies - again as a replacement - against Ireland on June 24.
Shepherd made his first start against the Springboks that September and was then included in the Australia squad for their November tour of Great Britain, during which he notched twice against Wales in Cardiff.
He was continually plagued by injuries but still managed to earn a place in the Wallaby panel for the 2007 World Cup. He made just one appearance in the tournament, though, against Canada in the pool stages.
Shepherd made three appearances for Australia the following summer but has not featured for his country since. However, he did earn a recall to the squad during the 2010 Tri-Nations despite having experienced another injury-interrupted season with the Force.
Despite his regular lay-offs, he is Perth-based franchise's record points and try-scorer. However, it emerged in January 2011 that he is facing a possible suspension from the game after being called before an Australian Rugby Union (ARU) disciplinary tribunal for allegedly being caught drink driving with a suspended driver's licence.
