Profile

George Chuter proved to be one of professional rugby's survivors, playing at the top level for a decade and half with Saracens and then Leicester. By the time he hung up his boots his record of 262 Premiership appearances had just been overtaken; he took part in seven Premiership finals for Leicester, was part of their squad which has reached four European Cup finals and also won a Knockout Cup with Saracens.

Chuter made his debut for Saracens in 1996 but in 2000 took a year away from rugby to travel the world even though he had by then played for England A. On his return he signed for Leicester - Richard Cockerill and Dorian West were competing for the hooker's place - where he remained for the rest of his career.

He gradually made the position his own and as he did so his international opportunities grew. He was included in the England Saxons 2004 and 2005 Churchill Cup squads, before winning the first of his 24 caps during the 2006 summer tour of Australia.

He was in the squad for the 2007 World Cup, making appearances in all matches through to the final although behind Mark Regan in the pecking order. A rare injury followed and aside from five appearances off the bench, that was that.

He continued to hold his own at Leicester, easing into more of a mentoring role as time went on. In 2014 he was one of the first inductees into the Premiership Hall of Fame.
