South African back-rower Frans Viljoen is set to join Magners League side Aironi.

Viljoen returns to European rugby five years after playing for Top 14 Orange side Stade Francais, having represented the Cheetahs in recent seasons.

While in Paris, Viljoen helped the side win the Top 14 in 2004, returning to South Africa for five Super Rugby seasons with the Cheetahs.

Aironi recently announced the capture of Cheetahs playmaker Naas Olivier as well as Kiwi halfback Tyson Keats and Italian international fly-half Luciano Orquera.

"We are pleased to have signed Frans on a two year contract. He will add experience, power and physicality in the back row area, so important in modern rugby," director of rugby Franco Tonni said. "If necessary, he can also play as a lock. That's why we think he's the right guy in the right place."
