Alasdair Dickinson was called up into the Scotland squad for the 2007 Rugby World Cup after an injury to Allan Jacobsen and made his first international appearance during the now infamous 40-0 loss to the All Blacks at Murrayfield.
He continued as a member of the Scotland squad through the 2008 Six Nations, making appearances against England and Italy before touring Argentina later in the year.
Dickinson made his second appearance against the All Blacks in November 2008 at Murrayfield before winning further caps against South Africa and Canada in the autumn. In January 2009 he was called into the Scotland squad for the Six Nations. Dickinson made five appearances in the tournament for Scotland but would not feature again for Scotland until the following year's Six Nations.
The prop struggled to claim a regular place in Scotland's starting XV and failed to make an appearance during the 2011 Six Nations, but he was included in Andy Robinson's provisional squad for the World Cup.
