Former Scotland international Bryan Redpath was promoted to the role of Gloucester Rugby Head Coach in June 2009 following the departure of Dean Ryan.

Following his retirement from playing as scrum-half for Sale Sharks in 2005, Redpath signed a two-year contract as backs coach under Ryan in the summer of 2007. A highly-respected player who won 60 caps for Scotland, Gloucester finished at the top of the Guinness Premiership standings in the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons under his guidance but they were twice thwarted in the play-offs to Leicester Tigers.

Redpath guided Gloucester to a seventh placed finish in the 2009-10 season in his first campaign in charge but it was a season laced with tragedy with long-term Gloucester owner Tom Walkinshaw passing away.

In the 2010-11 season, Redpath's charges were in superb form as they finished third in the Premiership and took the Anglo-Welsh Cup. They were knocked out of the Premiership playoffs at the semi-final stage to eventual champions Saracens.

Redpath's team impressed throughout the 2011-12 season with a noteable victory over Toulouse during their Heineken Cup campaign. While they look set to miss out on the playoffs, Redpath remained hopeful that they would be able to secure a spot in the top six.

But with just two games left of the regular season, Redpath announced his resignation. He was quick to emphasise that it was on-field performances that were the reasons behind his decision and not the speculation linking him with the vacant director of rugby position at Sale Sharks.
