Profile

Craig Chalmers was a classy fly-half with a deadly boot who played an integral role in Scotland's Five Nations Grand Slam success in 1990.

Chalmers started out with Melrose before lining out for Border Reivers, Edinburgh, Glasgow Caledonians, Harlequins, Worcester and Pertemps Bees during a nomadic career which he ended back at Melrose.

He was outspoken in his criticisms of the professionalism of the game in his native Scotland and was particularly incensed by the disbanding of Borders. He also made the headlines for the wrong reasons in 2010 after being involved in a drunken row with a bouncer at an after-party following the Melrose Sevens.

However, he is still fondly remembered within Scotland for landing three penalties in the country's Grand Slam-clinching victory over England in March 1990. Chalmers started every game of Scotland's campaign, contributing 33 points in total.

Chalmers made 60 appearances for his country and also played in one test for the British & Irish Lions, against Australia in Sydney in July 1989.
