Wales' Jamie Roberts is gearing up for what he believes will "be a massive year" but has revealed he is unsure as to where he will be playing next season.
The 25-year-old, who is close to fully recovering from knee surgery after damaging his anterior cruciate ligament in April, is due to sit his final medical exams in the same week Wales tackle England in the Six Nations but is also about to embark on the final year of his current deal with the Cardiff Blues.
Hotly-tipped to earn selection for what would be his second British & Irish Lions tour next summer, his domestic playing future is not so clear. "Four years ago I made a plan to sit my two-year medical degree over four years and I signed a four-year contract with the Blues," he told the Wales on Sunday newspaper.
"That all comes to an end this season and we'll see what happens. Obviously there is a new regime at the Blues which started this year and Phil is doing a sterling job. The boys are buying into his philosophy.
"My playing future? I'm not sure, I honestly don't have a clue. All I can say is that I'm approaching a significant crossroads in my life and I am completely unsure where I'm heading."
In the more immediate future, Roberts is looking forward to getting back out on the field. "I had the operation first week of April, it was always going to be a minimum of four or five months and I'm heading for that," he revealed.
"The running is going well, I started back fully flat-out running two weeks ago and hopefully within another six weeks or so, the end of September, I can put myself back in contention. "It has been a long, tough process, but I have worked hard, I have done all my rehab and I'm ready to go - almost."
