After playing for Neath RFC, Knoyle joined the Scarlets for the 2009/2010 season and made his debut against Cardiff Blues.
Having won caps at under-16, under-18 and under-20 level, he won his first international cap as a second half replacement for Wales against New Zealand in June 2010. He began the 2010/11 strongly and was called up to Wales' Six Nations squad with Cardiff Blues' Richie Rees suspended.
Knoyle's strong form led to a call-up for Wales' World Cup squad. However as third-choice scrum-half, behind Mike Phillips and Lloyd Williams, Knoyle played just one match as Wales lost in the semi-finals to France.
Following the World Cup, Knoyle struggled with a shoulder injury and it was confirmed that he would have to undergo surgery in the New Year, ruling him out fo the 2012 Six Nations.
