French second-division leaders Racing Metro Paris are in talks with Sale and France international Sebastien Chabal about a potential move at the end of the season. Chabal, 31, will leave Sale following the conclusion of their domestic campaign and return to France at the wish of his family but his destination has been unclear to this point. He was linked with a move to Montpellier before their President Philippe Deffins left office last week, and now Racing Metro have emerged as a possible solution. "The first contact was made back in December," Racing Metro's media officer Thomas Lombard told AFP. Lombard was quick to emphasise that no concrete plans had been made and also that Chabal's transfer was contingent on the side gaining promotion to the French Top 14 at the end of the season. "Racing Metro is no Paris Saint Germain," said Lombard. "We're not there to influence the transfer market. If a player signs for Racing it's because he identifies with the club and our style of play." Chabal has admitted that his interest in Montpellier has cooled since their boardroom troubles became public knowledge. "I have taken a step back compared to last week because I was in contact with Montpellier and that progressed well," he told French newspaper L'Equipe. "Now, having seen what has happened over there, I am asking myself a few questions. I still have time to reflect and I am not going to rush things," Chabal said. "I am not fixing myself a date." © Scrum.com
