Cross completes Waratahs switch

  • The Waratahs have completed the signing of international centre Ryan Cross from the Western Force.

    The 30-year-old, capped 18 times by the Wallabies, returns to where his professional career started in a one-year deal with the Sydney-based franchise and the Australian Rugby Union. "Ryan's a proven performer in both the Super Rugby and Test arenas, he has a lot of talent and will be a great asset to the team," said head coach Chris Hickey.

    Cross said that while he enjoyed his time in Perth he was looking forward to bringing his family back to Sydney with his sights set on helping the Waratahs to a successful season in the first year of the expanded Super 15 competition. "I'm really excited, I had a few really good years at the Force but the Waratahs are a good side and I'm looking forward to being a part of it."

  • A memorial service will be held for former England international Andy Ripley at Southwark cathedral on December 1, the occasion of what would have been his 63rd birthday. Ripley, who won 24 caps at No.8 between 1972 and 1976 and toured with the British & Irish Lions in 1974, died last week from prostate cancer.

  • London Irish wing John Rudd has announced his retirment from playing. Rudd. 29, has opted to pursue a career in the city.

    "Playing for the England Saxons, and the Heineken Cup and league winning season with Wasps, were just two of a number of career highlights and I will always be grateful to London Irish for the opportunities and enjoyment I experienced in my final season as a rugby player," he said. "I wish Toby and the squad every success in the future."

  • Sale Sharks have completed the signing of Leinster's Kyle Tonetti on a two-year deal.

    A centre or fly-half, Tonetti was a member of the 2007 Ireland U20 Grand Slam-winning squad. Kyle also represented Ireland at U19 level and has been a member of the Leinster first team squad for the last two seasons - featuring against Glasgow and Connacht in last seasons Magners League.
