  • Leicester Tigers head of operations Simon Cohen has revealed that head coach Richard Cockerill is keen to sign a lock before the club's Aviva Premiership opener against Northampton at Franklin's Gardens on September 5.

With Geoff Parling have been ruled out for four months after undergoing neck surgery and Richard Blaze also sidelined until December with a foot problem, the Tigers are short on cover in the second row. However, Cohen is well aware that Leicester could struggle to find a lock of the required quality before the new season gets underway.

"We would like to get someone in these circumstances," he is quoted as saying by thisisleicestershire.co.uk. "Of those players who are available at this time of the year, many are up-and-coming players with a lot of talent. But we need someone who is ready pretty soon.

"In an ideal world, we would get someone who is the right fit and who can not only fulfil a role for the next couple of months, but who can also contribute to the squad for the rest of the season. That person is hard to find."

  • Bath are sweating on the fitness of lock Scott Hobson and prop Aaron Jarvis ahead of the new Aviva Guinness Premiership season. Both players were forced off during the first half of Friday night's 29-24 defeat by Pays d'Aix - the club's opening pre-season fixture - and the full extent of their injuries will not be known until later this weekend

  • Exeter Chiefs have announced that former captain Rich Baxter has been awarded a testimonial year which will feature a match against an Invitational XV. The veteran prop has made 356 appearances for the club, scoring a record 106 tries, during his 13-year stint at Sandy Park.

  • England forwards coach John Wells will be the special guest at a coaching workshop at Birmingham & Solihull Rugby Club's training ground at Portway, on August 23.
