Bath have confirmed that Sir Ian McGeechan will leave his role as director of rugby at the end of the season.
The Aviva Premiership strugglers have ended growing speculation about the former Scotland international's future, with his existing two-year contract due to expire in May.
Bath have endured an erratic season and are currently well adrift of the Premiership play-off race, battling to secure automatic qualification for next season's Heineken Cup.
The club's forwards coach, Martin Haag, was forced to apologise to fans following last weekend's meek surrender to Northampton, a far cry from the aims of multi-millionaire owner Bruce Craig.
According to the club, "good progress" has been made in identifying a new head coach, with a revised structure and coaching team set to be in place for next season.
McGeechan initially joined Bath as performance director, having previously coached in the Premiership with Northampton and Wasps, and is synonymous with the British & Irish Lions, having headed up four tours during a 20-year spell.
"I've really enjoyed being part of Bath and the challenge of leading the cultural change that has taken place, particularly over the last 18 months," he said.
"The commitment of the players and staff during this significant transitional period has been outstanding. I will now take on the responsibility as head coach for the last three games."
